This week saw the release of the latest bi-monthly property and land sales figures from the National Statistics Institute.
The results were far from a surprise, showing that the usual August dip occurred, pretty much in line with what we expect each and every year. This is mainly down to the summer holiday period, where fewer clients and it must be said, fewer notaries and legal staff, are available to complete property purchases. August is traditionally the summer holiday month in Spain, when less official business of any kind is conducted, with everyone heading to the beach to escape the soaring temperatures. What most holiday makers see as a glorious summer can be unbearable for those stuck in offices as the mercury hits 40+ degrees! Even with air conditioning and fans on full blast, it’s a struggle to work indoors and a reduction in office work is seen as more of a necessity than merely an excuse for a holiday..
However, industry experts were again pleased to see that the September Spanish property sales figures were very healthy indeed, adding yet further confidence to the already boosted real estate industry on the Spanish Costas. These figures included the completions that were deferred from August, as they do every year and, comparing year on year, September 2014 saw the highest number of completions in the last 5 years, with over 30% of the properties being classed as “new build”. This is great news, as not only are sales increasing, but new construction is once again accounting for a large number of sales.
