Spanish house prices rise for the first time in 6 years!

It’s official! The “bottom of the market” is perceived to have been reached and buyers are reacting to the news in droves..

For some time official sources, local notaries and well informed real estate agents, have been warning that Spanish house prices had been stabilising and, in some sought after areas, even increasing, but earlier this week the news became official as new quarterly figures show an across the country increase of 1% in average house prices. The first in 6 years!

This is however an average figure and, whereas some rural areas maintained a stagnant market with prices still suffering, the figures from more popular areas such as the Alicante region brought the average up to positive territory. The strength of Alicante is further demonstrated by the fact that the region recorded the third highest number of sales in the country, being beaten only by the stalwarts of Barcelona and Madrid. The region also reached second place when comparing the number of sales per 100,000 inhabitants.

These figures give a really positive boost to the region and local agents are reporting an increase in activity among those that have been thinking about purchasing for some time, but have been waiting due to uncertainty in the market prices. It appears now that potential buyers have a window of opportunity to find their ideal home now that the prices are just starting to recover.
